Kaboom Featured on PBS Applause
We were honored to be featured on PBS’s Applause, and we’re still buzzing from the experience. The segment, which aired on April 28, 2023, gave viewers across Northeast Ohio an inside look at what Kaboom is all about, not just the music we make, but the reason we make it.
In the piece, Applause captured the heart of Kaboom: our mission to create real-world, production-based opportunities for young artists and to build bridges between education, creativity, and the industries that bring music and media to life. Through rehearsals, interviews, and glimpses into our collaborative process, the story highlighted how Kaboom Studio Orchestra functions like a professional ensemble, with artists of all ages composing, arranging, performing, and recording alongside mentors and professionals.
One of the highlights of the segment was our ongoing partnership with The Accidentals. Their collaboration has pushed us to think bigger, dig deeper, and connect more meaningfully with our audiences both in the room and around the world. Watching students rehearse and perform these new arrangements on screen, you could feel the energy that fuels everything we do: curiosity, discipline, joy, and an unshakable love for the work.
It was especially meaningful to see our Creative Director, Liza Grossman, speak about Kaboom’s origin story and the bold vision that continues to drive us. We are not a traditional music program. We are something new. A collective of makers, dreamers, and doers who believe that education should reflect the industries students hope to enter. Every production, from a studio album to an animation score to a live show, is a step forward on that path.
Thank you to Ideastream Public Media and the Applause team for capturing our story with such care and heart. And thank you to our students, instructors, collaborators, and supporters. You are the reason Kaboom exists and the reason we are growing every day.
Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.
